GenAISA Newsletter #3: Inside the New GenAISA Vocational Education & Training (VET) Course

Europe’s labour market has already evolved. Generative AI is no longer a future skill—it is already reshaping everyday work across sectors. While advanced AI expertise is increasingly valuable, there is also a growing need for accessible, practical training that supports professionals across industries—not only specialists.

The GenAISA consortium is addressing this need by developing a Vocational Education and Training (VET) curriculum in Generative AI to equip learners with hands-on skills directly applicable in the workplace.

What sets GenAISA apart is its strong alignment with emerging European regulations, including the AI Act, and its focus on practical, cross-sector skills. The programme is designed not only for technical specialists, but also for professionals who need to confidently apply AI tools in their daily work—bridging the gap between theory, policy, and real-world application.

Following our previous newsletter on the Higher Education curriculum, this edition provides an inside look at the VET training materials – and how they connect to real job roles such as:

  • Prompt Engineer
  • Generative AI Application Developer

Training Materials for Applied AI Skills

The GenAISA VET curriculum is built around five practice-oriented courses, each designed to support real workplace scenarios and develop generative AI-relevant competencies.

1. Introduction to Generative AI

This learning experience has been designed to guide you through key concepts, practical applications, and critical perspectives in a structured and engaging way. Throughout the course, you will explore relevant content such as key Generative AI concepts, the capabilities of different AI tools, and the opportunities and challenges of using technology responsibly, participate in interactive activities, and develop skills that can be applied in real-world contexts. .

Connection to job profiles:

  • Supports Prompt Engineers in understanding AI behaviour and interaction principles
  • Builds awareness for Developers on selecting appropriate tools and use cases

2. Text Generators

This course provides a hands-on introduction to working with language models, focusing on generating, refining, and evaluating AI-generated text.

Participants explore the evolution of generative AI, examine real-world applications across industries, and gain practical experience using modern tools. The course balances technical understanding with creative exploration, helping learners integrate AI into communication, marketing, education, and business workflows.

Connection to job profiles:

  • Core skill development for Prompt Engineers, especially in prompt creation and refinement
  • Practical exposure for Developers working with text-based AI applications

3. Image and Video Generators

This course introduces learners to the rapidly expanding field of AI-generated visual content.

Participants explore leading tools such as DALL·E, MidJourney, Stable Diffusion, and emerging video-generation platforms, learning to create, refine, and evaluate visual outputs.

The course also addresses key challenges such as visual quality, coherence, and common artefacts, while dedicating a full module to ethical and legal considerations, including copyright, bias, and misinformation.

Connection to job profiles:

  • Enhances Prompt Engineering skills in multimodal environments
  • Supports Developers working with visual AI integration and creative applications

4. Prompt Engineering

At the core of the VET curriculum, this course provides a structured and practical approach to designing effective AI interactions.

Prompt Engineering – Key Skills:

  • structuring complex prompts
  • managing long interactions
  • guiding AI reasoning
  • ensuring reliability and factual accuracy

The course also introduces the concept of building custom AI assistants and workflows, enabling learners to scale their skills from simple use to more advanced applications.

Connection to job profiles:

  • Directly aligned with the Prompt Engineer role
  • Supports Developers in designing user-facing AI interactions and systems

5. Security, Compliance, and Ethical Use of Generative AI

This course ensures that learners can use AI responsibly, securely, and in line with European regulations.

Participants explore:

  • AI-related cybersecurity risks (e.g. phishing, impersonation)
  • GDPR and the EU AI Act in practical scenarios
  • ethical challenges such as hallucinations and bias
  • transparency and responsible disclosure

The course concludes with a practical reflection in which learners develop a personal “GenAI Use Toolkit” for their professional context.

Connection to job profiles:

  • Essential for both Prompt Engineers and Developers working in real-world environments
  • Reinforces trust, compliance, and responsible innovation

Connecting Training to Real Job Opportunities

The VET curriculum has been carefully designed to align with the project’s identified job profiles:

Prompt Engineer

A professional who designs and refines prompts—for example, improving chatbot responses, automating content creation, or guiding AI decision-making in a business tool.
The VET course supports this role through a strong emphasis on prompting, evaluation, and responsible use across all modules.

Generative AI Application Developer

A technical role focused on integrating AI into applications and workflows.
The VET course builds foundational knowledge, practical tool usage, and awareness of security, compliance, and system design considerations.

Looking Ahead

The VET learning materials are currently in the final stages of development and refinement, incorporating real-world scenarios, practical exercises, and case-based learning.

In the next phase, in the autumn of 2026, the consortium will begin pilot testing the courses with learners across different sectors, ensuring that the content is:

  • accessible and practical
  • aligned with labour market needs
  • adaptable across industries

In conjunction with the Higher Education curriculum, the GenAISA training framework will provide a comprehensive pathway for AI upskilling across Europe.
