Moodle Moot Euskadi 2025: Exploring the Power of Generative AI in Education

On May 23, the Euskaltel headquarters in Derio will host a new edition of Moodle Moot Euskadi, the annual gathering of the Basque educational community around Moodle, the world’s leading open-source learning management platform. This year’s event is organized by HETEL, supported by the Euskaltel Foundation, and in collaboration with Mondragon Unibertsitatea (MU) and the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Among the participants, Politeknika Txorierri will take an active part in the programme, exploring the latest developments in the integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.

Generative AI and Moodle: Towards a More Personalized Learning Experience

The central theme of this year’s edition is “Moodle and Artificial Intelligence in Education,” with a strong focus on the emerging role of generative AI in transforming teaching and learning. As AI tools become more accessible and sophisticated, Moodle is evolving to incorporate functionalities that support personalized, automated, and enriched educational experiences.

The keynote presentation will be delivered by Amaia Anabitarte and Sara Arjona from MoodleHQ, who will demonstrate how recent Moodle versions include generative AI features—such as writing assistants, automated content analysis, question generation, and personalized feedback—that enhance teaching effectiveness and free up time for meaningful pedagogical engagement.

Generative AI as a Pedagogical Ally

Among the featured speakers, Egoitz Etxeandia, founder of AIEDUtech and member of Teach For All, will present the session “Generative Artificial Intelligence: An Ally for Education.” His talk will explore how this technology can be embedded into daily classroom practice—from creating adaptive teaching materials and generating interactive assessments to automating tutoring and support—always grounded in ethical and educational principles.

Etxeandia’s session will invite educators to reflect on the transformative potential of generative AI, while also highlighting the importance of adopting it critically and responsibly in education.

Beyond Technology: Building a Transformative Community

In addition to AI-focused presentations, the event will offer talks and workshops on key topics such as mentoring through Moodle, innovative assessment methods, and the use of remote desktops for digital learning. Moodle Moot Euskadi fosters a collaborative environment where educators and ICT leaders share insights and best practices.

Politeknika Txorierri’s involvement reinforces its commitment to educational innovation and aligns closely with initiatives like GENAISA, which promote the ethical, critical, and pedagogically sound adoption of AI in vocational education and training.
