European Software Institute is a foundation specializing in research and development in areas such as cybersecurity, AI policies and standards, IT technologies for security, and ICT education. Over the past decade, ESI has emerged as a preferred partner for cybersecurity and process-oriented training and research. The training programs cover secure software development, network security, applications security, cryptography, organizational resilience, agile methods, and software engineering.
ESI is experienced in developing MOOCs for various technical disciplines within the broader ICT domain including AI and big data. These MOOCs are designed to offer comprehensive and accessible learning experiences, catering to a wide range of technical skills and knowledge levels. The focus of ESI in this area emphasizes the development of learning platforms, MOOCs, and targeted trainings, ensuring a diverse and inclusive approach to education in the rapidly evolving world of ICT.
ESI is actively involved in ongoing research projects in cyber simulations, technologies for combating organized crime, smart cities, green technologies, and digital education. Their experts are integral members of high-level EU work groups and standardization bodies, contributing to the development of new cybersecurity and AI evaluation techniques.
ESI played a role in the completion of the Human Centered AI Master’s project, contributing expertise in explainable AI, risk mitigation, psychology, and ethical research. The organization also excels in designing various learning events, including lectures, tutorials, and interactive sessions, complete with lesson plans and materials.
As part of the ECHO network, one of the EU’s projects for enhancing security and resilience competencies, ESI has developed a skills framework for cybersecurity training. It has also created content for professional training in the maritime, energy, healthcare, and IT sectors, cementing its position as a center of excellence within the network.

George Sharkov is the Director of ESI and a recognized leader in AI and cybersecurity at the EU level. He actively contributes to expert groups and panels, shaping policies and practices in these fields. As an Associate Professor at the Institute for ICT at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Head of the Cyber Security Lab, he combines academic rigor with industry expertise. George also lectures at Plovdiv University, Sofia University, and New Bulgarian University, dedicating himself to advancing education and mentoring future professionals, aligning perfectly with the goals of the GenAISA project.
Ivaylo Gueorguiev

Ο Ivaylo Gueorguiev είναι Διευθυντής Προγράμματος με πάνω από 20 χρόνια εμπειρίας που οδηγεί σε προγράμματα έρευνας, παροχής συμβουλών και κατάρτισης στον τομέα των ΤΠΕ σε περιφερειακό και εθνικό επίπεδο. Έχει διαδραματίσει κεντρικό ρόλο στην ανάπτυξη διεθνών πλατφορμών για δεξιότητες ΤΠΕ και MOOC, προάγοντας παγκόσμιες εκπαιδευτικές τεχνολογίες και ανάπτυξη δεξιοτήτων. Project Manager
Pavel Varbanov is a seasoned Project Manager with over 15 years of experience managing EU-funded initiatives. His leadership in the ESI activities under the HCAIM project, co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Commission, resulted in the successful development of a comprehensive master’s program in AI. Pavel’s expertise in project management and AI education strengthens the GenAISA project’s efforts to innovate and advance learning in artificial intelligence.
